IMB 001 was deployed on a large ice floe approx 200m from open water in an area protected on all sides by ridges.

• Ice thickness: 140cm.
• snow depth 40cm.
• Freeboard 1 cm.

25 thermistors were visible above the snow surface. The next 20 or 22 should be in the snowpack.
